Interview with The Tragic Company

RMN: Where are you from and what’s the origin of your band name?

The Tragic Company:

We live in Spain, though only the singer and drummer are Spanish. The other two, guitarist and bassist are Argentinian and French. The name is because originally it was a solo project, but didn’t sound well to name it like “Alan Parsons Project” kind of way. It felt better to call it like a bunch of people playing together, but that came afterwards.
RMN: Introduce shortly your band members and history

The Tragic Company:

Juanma is the lead singer, guitarist, main songwriter, and also does management duties. He’s the founder of the band back in 2008. Mariano is the lead guitar player. He’s argentinian, but he’s been living in Spain for quite some time already. He also does backing vocals. He joined about five years ago. Alan is the bassist. He’s French. He also does backing vocals. He’s been living in Spain for many years. He joined about 4 years ago. Jose Luis is the drummer. He’s the other Spanish guy in the band. He’s been in and out because he was supposedly “not a full band member” while we were looking for a drummer. In the end, he finally joined us. And we are glad about that. He’s been in and out about 5 years, but more permanently for the last 3 years. The band started as a hard rock/classic rock project, but evolved to a more modern and heavier sound.
RMN: What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?

The Tragic Company:

We like prog rock bands such as Porcupine Tree or Tool. We also like Alter Bridge and Danish band Dizzy Mizz Lizzy. We love the 90s in general.
We do a blend of post-grunge and prog rock. It depends on the song. Sometimes we sound more like Silverchair, and sometimes, like Porcupine Tree or Dream Theater.
RMN: What are the main themes or topics for your songs?

The Tragic Company:

Love/hate. Social critic. Media. And lately a bit of politics.
RMN: Where have you already performed and  do you have any upcoming shows?

The Tragic Company:

We’ve been touring Spain for many years. Big and small venues. We intend to finally go out and show our music in other countries. We’d love to tour Europe. We are focused in finishing our third album, of which you can already listen the first single to, Rotten, on Spotify. We recorded it during the quarantine in Spain in April/May 2020. The video is also recorded by ourselves in our houses.
RMN: Any last words?
The Tragic Company:
“Oh Lord, have mercy!!”
